German Engraving in the 16th Century Exhibition at the Library of the Romanian Academy

0

The exhibition „Albrecht Durer. German engraving in the 16th century”, which presents over 150 works that give back the atmosphere of the German world from that period, will be opened, on Friday, in the „Theodor Pallady” Hall of the Library of the Romanian Academy.

In addition to the 67 metal and woodcuts made by the famous German artist, dozens of other engravings belonging to his disciples or rivals will be exhibited: Lucas Cranach, Hans Burgmair, Georg Pencz, Hans Sebald Beham. The exhibition will feature creations from the fantastic and mysterious cycle made in 1498 entitled „The Apocalypse of St. John of Pathmos”, works belonging to the series entitled „Passions” or „Penance of St. Chrysostom”, enigmatic and moralizing engravings as „Nemesis” and plates depicting episodes biblical or mythological, recurring themes that marked the artistic repertoire of the German and European Renaissance.

Durer’s works (1471-1528) are surprising in their intensity and accuracy, derived from Albrecht Durer’s passion for realism. The features of the engraved characters show a deep understanding of human nature by the artist, most of the characters becoming iconic images, whose style is still found in the approaches of creators in various fields of visual art.

The organizers of the Albrecht Durer exhibition

The event will be presented by the vice-president of the Romanian Academy Răzvan Theodorescu, president of the Department of arts, architecture, and audiovisual. The general director of the Library of the Romanian Academy, Nicolae Noica, and Cătălina Macovei, the curator of the exhibition, will also speak. The exhibition will be open from March 4 to 25 and can be visited from Monday to Friday, between 9.00 and 14.00, in compliance with all health regulations in force. Admission is free.

Forbes: Why Bucharest Belongs on Your Travel Wish List

0

Bucharest is one of the most astonishing capitals of Europe and one of the top puts on any voyager list of things to get. As indicated by the travel author and editorial manager Ann Abel from Forbes, Bucharest is the place on your travel list with a rich history and a Parisian marvel.

The capital of Romania, surnamed in the twentieth century as „Paris of the East” for its French-style Art Nouveau and Art Deco design and social life, was one of the most delightful urban communities in Romania in the interwar period. Is it still worth the effort today?

Because of the political changes, socialist tyrannies, and the seismic tremor in 1977, Bucharest changed after some time and became more appealing, being a blend of styles. Ann Abel specifies in her Forbes article: Why Bucharest, Romania, Belongs On Your Travel Wish List Now, the Romanian capital has an alluring blend of Art Nouveau leftovers and brutalist Communist-time loft blocks.

Here are Bucharest’s top attractions:

A few attractions are referenced by the previously mentioned writer in the Forbes article. Some others are worth mentioning here due to their importance and historical significance.

Palace of Parliament: Europe’s most remarkable edifice from the Communist era

Palace of Parliament or the „People’s House,” as the socialist leader Ceausescu called it, is one of the most exciting tourist objectives in Bucharest.

The Palace of Parliament represents the old socialist times and intrigues with its size and different engineering styles. This royal residence is one of Bucharest’s most visited touristic targets with solid wood furniture, precious stone crystal fixtures, noteworthy aspects, gigantic marble segments, and other refined inside plan components.

According to Guinness World Record Book, this socialist structure is the most significant managerial structure (for common use), the heaviest and most expensive design internationally, and its third spot on the Planet by its volume.

Romanian Athenaeum: nicknamed as the Romanian temple of arts

This delightful artistry symbol has been part of the European legacy beginning around 2007, which is granted to sites with a substantial symbolic value for European history and heritage. Romanian Athenaeum hosts remarkable events, such as George Enescu’s classic music festival, an international event for classical music lovers.

Stavropoleos Church: The City of the Cross

One more verifiable milestone featured by Ann Abel in Bucharest is an eastern standard church called Stravropoleos, or The City of the Cross in Greek. The Stravopoleos religious community draws consideration through its overwhelming stone segments, unique platforms, and the craftsmanship of the figures made with plant themes. The interior paintings and the special character of the icons immediately attract the attention of tourists looking at some of the most sacred spiritual and theological symbols around the Christian world.

You can observe all you want to be familiar with the Palace of Parliament, Romanian Athenaeum, Stravropoleos Church, and a more significant amount of Bucharest’s attractions and features on VisitBucharest Today.

Romanian traditional food: Bucharest entered the Top 10 traditional food cities in the world

When it comes to Romanian food, the plans for a „nutritious supper” incorporate pork and hamburger meat. Even though Romania is known for its heavenly dishes like sarmale (a formula with meat with rice enveloped by cabbage leaves), Romania’s Capital has probably the best eateries with different words for all preferences and wants. POT Storie, Casa di David, Le Bistrot Francais are the eateries that make tasty dishes with worldwide flavors.

Other restaurants recommended in Bucharest are Caru’ cu bere (The Cart with Beer)Hanul lui Maniuc (Manuc’s Inn)Linea/Closer to the MoonHard Rock Café, Beraria HNOR Sky.

Bucharest feels like a place where the ink hasn’t quite dried on the history books. No place’s history is fully written, of course, but here, some dramatic change and upheaval was quite recent. You can still see the bullet scars on the buildings in what is now called Revolution Square, where in 1989, Ceausescu was one of the last European Communist dictators to fall, in a revolution that was one of the bloodiest.

Ann Abel, travel & lifestyle writer

Bucharest remains the best combination of old and new, a restless youth city with a specific smell of the last centuries. A perfect place for tourists to enjoy the vibe, discover new places and stories, and learn about the rich history of the once known” Paris of the East.”

That’s why Bucharest belongs on your travel list.

Romanian Defence Minister: Romania Can Shelter 500,000 Ukrainian Refugees

Romania can shelter more than 500,000 Ukrainian refugees if Russia invades the country. Minister of Defense in Romania, Vasile Dincu, mentioned that several areas around the border are arranged to shelter refugees.

According to Vasile Dincu, Romania is not expecting a massive influx of Ukrainian refugees. In 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea, many Ukrainians took refuge in Poland, not Romania, but ”one never knows.”

”There are several estimates, but we could receive over 500,000 refugees, this is the number for which we have prepared together with the Ministry of the Interior and other subordinate institutions. […] There are several places. There is a plan for all major cities, there are areas for this along the border.”

Vasile Dincu, Defence Minister of Romania

In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Romanian citizens not to travel to this country and those temporarily in Ukraine to leave the territory of this state immediately. Even though the defense minister highlighted that Romania is prepared to extract its citizens from Ukraine, no such requests have been made so far.

Vasile Dincu urged the Romanian population to remain calm, for, according to his saying, there will be no war in Romania, even if Russia invades Ukraine.

I think the population can rest easy. Of course, in the context of a conflict in Ukraine, the whole area is affected. That doesn’t mean there will be a war on our territory.

Vasile Dincu, Defence Minister of Romania

Romania has already organized six refugee centers in Bucharest and counties nationwide, and it is prepared to accept any requests from Ukraine if the case.

One of the most successful Romanian law firms – Hammond Partnership

Hammond Partnership is one of the most successful law firms in Romania, founded in 1990 when British lawyer Nicholas S. Hammond established the law firm to provide innovative solutions to the Romanian market and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Based on his professional experience, Nicholas Hammond decided to set up a law firm in Romania with Romanian lawyers to cover all Romanian legislation and all related legal issues and provide legal services to local foreign investors coming to our country. Later, he also started to offer legal services to Romanian companies.

,,I was the first English lawyer to come in Romania in 1990. The idea of building a professional Romanian law firm came up all of a sudden, as a business opportunity as it looked back in those days. Now, after 29 years of sharing my life between Romania and England, I’ve accomplished something more: I’ve got something from both nations. Thus, I have started to better understand Romania, local habits, traditions, the way of conducting business here and so many more. This is my real earning after these years”, Nicholas Hammond, the senior partner, said.

Hammond Partnership is a specialist law firm focused on the Romanian market, with extensive experience in numerous legal fields, including aviation, natural resources, finance, insurance, and intellectual property. In addition to these legal services, Hammond Partnership provides many other benefits to foreign investors and local business people.

I think that Romania is one of the European Unions most attractive countries for foreign investors. According to the statistics, in the last years Romania had a steady consecutive economic growth and the outlook is the same for 2019.

This is why me and the Hammond Partnerships team encourage any foreign investors to consider the Romanian market when thinking about starting a business abroad as it is perhaps one of the most attractive countries to open a business in the European Union at this moment.

I am proud to say that my experience as a lawyer can be materialized in the form of legal services provided for protecting clients’ interests. Also, our main goal here, at Hammond Partnership firm, is to get the best results. In addition, we focus on winning all the cases to protect the interests of our clients”, added Mr. Nicholas Hammond, the senior partner of Hammond Partnership.

Over the years, Nicholas S. Hammond has advised his overseas clients in various areas, from insurance to banking, retail to agriculture, and project finance to venture capital. He also advises on real estate law matters and leasing and Romanian intellectual property law.

He is one of the most successful lawyers for Romania-based international and multinational companies. His long-standing cases characterize him, the professionalism characteristic of him and his team of lawyers, his vision of legal matters, and the way they handle each case is highly recommended. Nearly 30 years later, Nicholas Hammond is more of a brand than a simple lawyer.

Hammond Partnership is just one of many other successful examples of legal services for foreign companies in Romania. Meanwhile, Hammond Partnership is a company that encourages foreign investors to invest in Romania. This is precisely what Romania needs to continue to grow its economy.
