Foreign tourist arrivals in Romania increased by 56.5%, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Regarding the foreign tourist arrivals at Romanian tourist accommodation establishments, the largest share was held by tourists from Europe (78.1% of the total foreign tourists), 69.8% of whom arrived from other European Union countries.
Arrivals at Romania’s tourist accommodation establishments in January 2022 amounted to 578,700 persons, up 20.3% from January 2021.
Of the total number of January 2022 arrivals, the arrivals of Romanian tourists at tourist accommodation establishments made up 90.9%, while foreign tourists made up only 9.1%.
The number of overnight stays at tourist accommodation establishments in January 2022 amounted to 1.1 million, up 24.7% from January 2021.
Out of the total January 2022 numbers, Romanian tourists overnighting at Romanian tourist accommodation establishments made up 89.0%, while overnight stays of foreign tourists counted for 11%.
Most of the foreign tourists who overnighted at Romania’s tourist accommodation establishments came from Europe (75.4% of the total number of foreign tourists), of whom 68.7% came from European Union countries.
