The UEFA Executive Committee decided in a special meeting on Friday to move the UEFA Champions League 2022 final out of Russia.
The Champions League Final was set to be played in Russia, but it was decided to change course given recent events.
Therefore, the last act of the most gallant European interclub competition in the world will take place on the Stade de France arena, in Saint-Denis, in Paris, on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
In fact, in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, UEFA also sent a message of solidarity to the Ukrainian people:
”UEFA shares the international community’s significant concern over the growing security situation in Europe and strongly condemns the ongoing Russian military invasion of Ukraine. As the governing body of European football, UEFA is constantly working to develop and promote football following common European values, such as peace and respect for human rights, in the spirit of the Olympics. We remain determined in our solidarity with the Ukrainian football community, and we are ready to reach out to the Ukrainian people. We face this situation with the utmost seriousness and urgency.” according to UEFA’s press release.
Unfortunately, Romania’s national team has not qualified for a football championship since 1998. Still, Romanian football fans in France will see the Champions League Final on the Stade de France arena in Paris.
